Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) is the entrance examination for bachelor courses in engineering in Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs). Indian Institute of Technologies are without doubt the most prestigious institutes for engineering education in India. Students start preparing for IIT JEE years before the actual examination. Preparation for IIT JEE requires special effort and determination as the level of questions asked in IIT JEE is higher than other engineering entrance examinations.
At present there are 15 IITs (including 2 new IITs-IIT Himachal Pradesh and IIT Indore)for which admission is conducted through JEE. In addition admission to IT BHU, Varanasi and ISMU, Dhanbad is also conducted through IIT JEE. After getting admission in any of these institutes’ students can expect to get placements in the leading companies offering the best pay packages. In addition to quality education, faculty, training etc IITs boasts of world class infrastructure and other facilities.
IIT
The Indian Institutes of Technology are institutions of National importance and play a leading role in technological manpower development. Its leadership in producing world class technocrates is recognised internationally. The academic and research programmes at these institutes are comparable to best in the world. Today, students of these institutions occupy key positions in industry and academic institutes in India and abroad.
Admission
The admissions to these institutions are made through the Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE).
JEE
Joint entrance examination is conducted every year by IITs, from the past three years it is conducted in two phases.
Successful candidates are allotted all India Rank on the bases of performance in the IIT JEE mains. The candidates are given admission to various courses of IITs according to their all India Rank.
Application Form
Application Forms Availability for IIT JEE 2010
- IIT JEE application forms are expected to be available in 3rd week of November. The forms can be bought from the designated branches of banks depending on the zone, details regarding which will be available with release of admission notification. The forms can also be requested by sending a demand draft along with a request for the form. A candidate can also apply online through IIT website by filling the required details in the online form and sending the printed form along with Demand Draft and other documents to specified IIT.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission through IIT JEE a candidate should have passed class 12th or equivalent with atleast 60% marks in aggregate. There is 5% relaxation for SC/STs. Besides that a candidate should not be more than 25 years as on 1st October 2009. For SC/STs a candidate should not be more than 30 years. Only those candidates who have passed 12th in 2009 or are appearing in 2010 can appear for IIT JEE.

Pattern of examination
There are two papers of 3 hours duration each. Both the papers have objective questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There will also be negative marking for incorrect answers.
About IIT Bombay
IIT Bombay, set up by an Act of Parliament, was established in 1958, at Powai, a northern suburb of Mumbai. Today the Institute is recognised as one of the centres of academic excellence in the country. Over the years, there has been dynamic progress at IIT Bombay in all academic and research activities, and a parallel improvement in facilities and infrastructure, to keep it on par with the best institutions in the world. Location of the Institute : IIT Bombay is located at Powai, which is an eastern suburb in the North-Eastern part of Mumbai. Mumbai has one of the most efficient and reliable public transport network. One can travel by Autorickshaws / Taxis to reach IIT from the nearest stations(Autorickshaws, however do not go further south than Sion and Bandra). For longer distance, you can use either the BEST Bus Network or the Mumbai Local train System. International flights land at Sahar Airport which is about 7 kms from IIT. The Domestic Airport- SantaCruz is about 10 kms. Pre paid taxis are available at the Airports. Autorickshaws are also available for IIT.
Campus of IIT Mumbai : IIT Bombay is a small township in itself. Consciously developed, the campus has retained and increased its green cover, rich in natural flora and fauna. The campus is connected to the city proper, an hour's distance through buses and local trains. However, most facilities are available on campus itself, including a bank, a shopping centre, two excellent schools for children, and a well equipped hospital. All students and most faculty live in campus, in student hostels and IIT staff quarters. The peaceful atmosphere of the campus belies the full range of activities going on that complement academic life.
About IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi is one of the seven Institutes of Technology created as centers of excellence for higher training, reasearch and development in science, engineering and technology in India. Established as college of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was later declared an institution of National Importance under the " Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963" and was renamed "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi "
Location of the Institute : IIT Delhi is situated at Hauz Khas in New Delhi and well connected to the major city centres by open and wide roads. The Institute campus is about 19 km away from the Delhi Main Railway Station, 14 km from the New Delhi Railway station and 10 km from Delhi Airport.
IIT Delhi Campus : The campus of the Institute extends to an area of 320 acres with many topographical features imaginatively laid out with picturesque landscape, numerous buildings of various nature and stature, and clean and wide roads
About IIT-Guwahati
Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up the necessary infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state - of - the- art Scientific and engineering instruments.
Location of the Institute : IIT Guwahati is situated on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra, around 20 kms from the heart of the city. About IIT Kanpur
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is one of the premier institutions established by of government of India. The Institue began functioning in the borrowed building of Hurcourt butter technological Institue in 1959 with 100 students and a small faculty. Now the Institute has a big infrasture, and it is rapidly gaining a legendary reputation.

Location of the Institute: IIT Kanpur is located on GT Road about 16 km west of Kanpur city. It is 12 km from Railway station [Kanpur Junction] and 100 km from Amousi (Lucknow) airport. IIT Kanpur Campus: Spread over 1055 acres of land offered by UP Government. It is a residential campus offering accommodation to all the faculty, about 700 support staff, and students. The campus has all the amenities for developing the personal, social and academic skills of the community.
About IIT - Kharagpur
The first Indian Institute of technology was born in may 1950 in Hijli , Kharagpur, in the eastern part of India. The present name, Indian Institute of Technology' was adopted before the formal inauguration of the institute on August 18, 1951, by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. on sept 15, 1956, the parliament of India passed an act known as the Indian Institute of Technology [ Kharagpur] . Act declaring this institute as an Institute of national importance. The Institute was also given the status of an autonomous University from this modest start in 1950 IIT Kharagpur has been engaged in a steady process of development with about 18 academic department, five centres of excellence.
IIT Kharagpur Campus : On March 1952, Pt. Nehru laid the foundation stone of the new building. The layout of the present campus and the design of the building were carried out by a host of engineers and architects under the guidance of an eminent Swiss architect Dr. Werner M. Mosir. The vast tree-laden campus, spreading the 2100 acres has a self-contained township of over 15000 inhabitants.
About IIT Madras
IIT Madras was established in the year 1959 , and it was the third in the line of Indian Institutes of technology setup for higher technical eduction in the country.

About IIT Roorkee
The Institute which began as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering in1847, became the University of Roorkee in 1949 and has been declared as the 7th Indian Institute of Technology in 2001.The college came into existence because of a pressing need for civil engineers to build the "Ganga Canal", which would provide irrigation facilities to the entire North West provinces. The institute has had illustrious people associated with it both as faculty members as well as our alumni. Our alumni boast of Victoria Cross awardees, Knighted people, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awardees. From Mekong valley in Thailand, to Lar dam in Iran, to Bhakra Nangal dam in India itself, the community of IIT Roorkee has made significant contributions. The institute boasts of the largest number of academic departments (19) and research centers (27) among all technical institutions in India. We were the first to start postgraduates programmes in engineering and have the largest number of specializations and super specializations at Master's level (53).
IIT Roorkee Campus : IIT Roorkee is spread over a sprawling area of more than 150 hectares and houses about 3500 strong student community and with educational national of more than 50 countries particularly from Asia and Africa, the institute has a truly global face. The campus is a virtual heaven of rare flora and fauna found in the Himalayas and forms an ideal backdrop for all individuals who believe in the pursuit of excellence in peace and solitude, be it in academics or in tests of endurance in the rugged and majestic mountainside. The campus boasts of an imposing main building built two centuries ago, which features a hemispherical dome and subtle architectural features like Tuscan columns and shaded colonnades. Other buildings in the campus have been designed by India's leading architect A. P. Kanvinde, providing a harmonious contrast between colonial majesty and modern elegance.
Location of IIT Roorkee : The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is situated in the newly formed state of Uttaranchal in the northern part of India. This small town is about 186 kms north east of the national capital, New Delhi, 71 kms from the state capital, Dehradun, 32 kms from the holy city, Hardwar, 45 kms from Saharanpur (UP) and about 120 kms from the Queen of Hills, Mussoorie. Roorkee is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas. Roorkee is well connected by rail to New Delhi, Dehradun, Hardwar and a number of other major cities of India. The Superfast Dehradun Shatabdi Express from New Delhi Railway Station to Dehradun passes via Roorkee on all days.
Candidates successfully completing the Preparatory Course will be offered direct admission to the first year in the academic year 2009-10. 2.3% for PD, including leprosy-cured candidates, who are otherwise fit to pursue the course and who qualify for admission under relaxed norms relevant for this category.
About IT BHU
IT-BHU is the Engineering School of BHU. BHU is one of the oldest and largest educational institutions in northern India. It was founded by Madan Mohan Malviya in 1916. Its first VC was Sir Sunderlal after whom the on - campus hospital has been named.
Banaras Hindu University has a rich history. Gandhi ji gave his first political speech in India ( on return from S. Africa) at the foundation stone laying ceremony of BHU. As you can imagine his speech caused quite a flutter and an embarrassment to the establishment. Sri S. Radhakrishan also served as a VC here. Among the famous non- Indian families associated with BHU is the royal family on Nepal. Most of the Nepalese royal family members including King Berendra have graduated from BHU.
IT was formerly known as BENCO (Banaras Engineering College) and celebrated its Platinum Jubilee in 1994. IT-BHU offers Undergraduate and Graduate level courses in almost all fields. It is affiliated to the Indian Institutes of Technology and has a common entrance examination with them.
Location of the Institute : It is located on the banks of the river Ganga in the holy city of Varanasi (Banaras), Utter Pradesh. Varanasi is known as the Holy city of India. It has numerous temples lined on the banks of the river Ganga.
About ISM-Dhanbad (Indian School of Mines , Dhanbad )
The Indian School of Mines was formally opened by His excellency the Viceroy Lord Irwin on 9th December 1926 and the general work of the School commenced on the 10th Dec 1926 in its premises at Dhanbad with Dr D Penman as the first Principal. On the completion of the first 25 years of its existence in 1951 the Silver Jubilee celebrations were inaugurated by Dr Rajendra Prasad, the then President of India, who gave thereby a fresh fillip to this Institution. The School had celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1976 and Platinum Jubilee in 2001.
Location of the Institute: The Institution was located at Dhanbad in order to facilitate the mining education to be in close relation with the Mining Industry. For training in Geology, the province of Bihar and its surroundings are unrivalled in their variety of geological formations, in the multiplicity of structural and field characteristics and also in the diversity and richness of the metallic and non-metallic resources.
The locational advantage of ISM is that it is situated at the core of the industrial base of the region which hosts a number of coal mines, steel, fertilizer, refractory factories, heavy machine building plants etc. It has 88 hectare (203 acre) residential campus of its own consisting of graceful blend of old-world and new style buildings. The serene campus comprises academic buildings, student hostels, faculty and staff quarters, health centre, workshop, canteen and other infrastructural facilities for a cosmopolitan community. The School is about three kilometers to the north of Dhanbad Railway Station; altitude of the place is 212 m above MSL and average rainfall is around 148 cm; the maximum and minimum temperatures are around 40o and 7o Celsius, respectively. ISM has a fully residential campus covering an area of 88 hectares.
The development of ISM for the last 75 years has been taking place both vertically and horizontally. It has become a Deemed University in 1967 under UGC Act, 1956. The Institute, at present, is funded by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India.
