Entrance Test
Admission to first year of Five years full time undergraduate course in Architecture {Bachelor of Architecture} in various colleges of India takes place through National and State level entrance examinations.
The National Aptitude test in Architecture (NATA), a drawing based entrance exam is conducted by the National institute of Advanced Studies and Architecture in association with the Council Architecture (COA). NATA scores are used by admissions authorities of different unaided & Government aided schools / colleges of Architecture. To provide common measures for comparing the qualifications of applicants. Admission is based on the merit / ranking in the entrance exam. NATA measures aesthetic sensitivity, critical thinking. Perception, observation and architectural awareness of a candidate through paper based drawing test and computer based online test.
The CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) conducts a national level entrance examination. All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) on an All India basis for entry to undergraduate program in B. Planning in government and private institutes. The exam consists of Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and a Drawing test.
Entrance to Architecture Programs at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT's) is through the national level Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Private institutes conduct entrance exams of their own. Different states also hold separate entrance exams for admission to architecture and separate entrance exams for admission to architecture and engineering colleges in the respective states.
Architecture, the study of art and science of buildings and structures, is the profession of designing buildings, open areas, communities, and other artificial constructions and environments , usually with some regard to aesthetic effect. Architecture often includes design or selection of furnishings and decorations, supervision of construction work, and the examination, restoration, or remodeling of exiting buildings. An Architect has to keep in mind cost and functionality of the structures, while feasibility, aesthetic aspects and safety measures are equally important considerations. While designing, he has to create a balance among spaces, volumes, textures, lights, shadows or abstract elements to achieve pleasing aesthetics collectively.
An Architect is a combination of artist, professional and businessperson, who ideates draws and makes blueprints of the designs. Apart from designing and construction, architects are trained in activities ranging from conceptual problem solving to project management. In this field one can rise to a successful position through talent and hard work.
Eligiblity
To pursue a career in the field of Architect, one can start education right after completing their schooling that this after 12th. A bachelor degree in architecture (B.Arch or Diploma in architecture is needed to become a qualification architect.
Aspirants for architecture should complete 10+2 in any discipline with Mathematics as a subject. Almost all the technical colleges / universities offer undergraduate and post graduate courses in Architect and entrance exams are conducted for admission in these programs. B.Tech.& M.Tech.(Architect Engg.) are also offered by top most institutes like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee) .
B.Arch. degree program is 5 years and includes practical training through projects. The apprenticeship (usually for one semester) has to be done under a recognized and practicing architect.
After completing B.Arch., The candidate can take up post graduation (Master of Architecture) (M.Arch.) or can start practicing at junior level under a practitioner.

Personal Skills
The Architect must be flexible in his approach as well as bear the specificities of purpose in mind e.g. the skills required for building a stadium are different than say from building a hospital. A successful architect requires special qualifications like designing talent, business aptitude, social awareness and legal knowledge. He must possess excellent communication and drawing skills, keen observation, vivid imagination, creativity, ideas and the ability to visualize. Other qualities include leadership, managerial qualities, resourcefulness and ability to work as a team which can be acquired through practice.
Modern architecture demands construction methods that are highly sophisticated and well harmonized with the environment. And so the architect should be highly careful about the surroundings and exiting skyline and yet be sensitive to the comforts and expenses of his clients.
Prospects
A fresh architecture graduate can start his career as an apprentice with any architectural company. After gaining some years of experience as an apprentices with a Senior Architect, a person can apply to Construction Companies like DLF, Sahara, Eros Group and the likes.
Architects with some experience can even set up their own business as Consultants and Contractors. To work as an individual consultant or to set up a private practice, a qualified architect must register with the Council of Architecture, India.
Remuneration
Salary of experienced architects in India is generally high ranging from Rs.2 Lakh to Rs. 5 Lakh per month. However, an apprentices in private company is usually paid about Rs. 1,00,000 p.a. to 1,50,000 per annum.
There are many public sector employers as well as private sector in this field.
